EDI usage in Lithuania Do-It-Yourself sector has grown 50%

In 2019, EDI usage in Do-It-Yourself (DIY) sector in Lithuania has grown an impressive 50%. The retailers leading the “EDI-revolution” in DIY sector are Kesko Senukai, Moki Veži, Lemora and SLO

In FMCG sector, EDI is more a norm than exception.  For example, Maxima LT has already 80% of its document traffic via EDI. Most leading FMCG retailers are heavily promoting EDI.

However,  in DIY sector in Lithuania, EDI is still in its infancy but growing fast. Every  month, DIY retailers are connecting new suppliers to EDI system. This means the share of EDI documents of all documents is growing rapidly and the companies are getting more and more  benefits from automation.

Darius Žemys, Head of IT at Makveža JSC, comments: “Our company made a firm decision in 2018  to implement Telema EDI solution in order to automate our ordering and goods receipt processes. We started with a pilot partner and are now expanding EDI connection to other suppliers as well.”

While Makveža expected EDI to reduce paper and printing costs, these have not been the main benefits of EDI. Mr. Darius Žemys explains: “In the past, the human factor often led to errors in goods receipt, and those errors were time-consuming to correct. With EDI, goods receipt has become significantly faster and smoother, as the delivery notes are in the system even before the goods arrive. All this makes the entire supply chain process more efficient, which leads to  cost savings for the company.”

Since the benefits of EDI are so significant, Telema expects DIY sector to increase the usage of EDI at a good pace. Our company forecasts EDI usage growth in DIY sector to be at least 30% for next year, 2020.
